.DISCUSSION...

KEY MESSAGES:

- Scattered showers across northwest Montana this morning.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon across
   southwest Montana.

- Hot and dry conditions during the first part of next week.

- Active weather pattern by the latter part of the work week.

Scattered showers continue to move through northwest Montana this
morning. This convection is anticipated to diminish during the mid
to late morning hours. Then this afternoon the atmosphere appears
to become unstable enough for a few storms to develop across
southwest Montana. These storms do not appear to be as strong as
what was experienced on Thursday, but lightning and moderate to
heavy rainfall could be present. Gusty westerly winds are also
expected to develop this afternoon as gusts up to 30 mph will be
possible.

A ridge of high pressure will be building over the region Sunday
into the first part of next week. This ridge will allow
temperatures to warm 10 to 20 degrees above seasonal averages for
the Northern Rockies with the warmest day expected on Tuesday.

The models continue to indicate that the Northern Rockies will
return to a more active weather pattern for the latter part of the
work week. Periods of showers and thunderstorms are expected
each day especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures
are anticipated to cool slightly, but still remain 5 to 10
degrees above normal.

&&

.AVIATION... Scattered showers will continue to move across
northwest Montana this morning, mainly affecting KGPI until
27/17z. This afternoon the atmosphere appears to become unstable
enough to allow for the development of showers and thunderstorms.
Hires models are showing the potential of showers and
thunderstorms near KBTM between 27/19z to 28/01z. The threat is
lower for KHRF and KSMN during the same time frame.
